I'm trying to exchange some large files (~3GB) with a colleague in NZ and we're finding Dropbox too slow and S3 unreliable (tried the Sydney and LA locations and getting lots of broken pipe errors on the NZ side) so I'm thinking of getting an NZ hosted FTP server to use instead.

Can anyone recommend a FTP host? I haven't found any with NZ based servers yet.

Tried Mega?  I've always found it to be very fast.

Another good alternative might be owncloud set up at one of your locations, cut out the middle man as it were.

Or bittorrentsync.

BitTorrent Sync is pretty awesome, easy to use too.

If S3 is unreliable then it's more likely the connection. S3 is a very reliable service. BT Sync would work around this.

Honestly, if you're having reliability issues with S3, one of you likely has a dodgy connection. Whatever you end up using, make sure it supports resuming because you'll probably need it. Try BTSync as suggested above.

Yea FTP is even more susceptible than those other services. The beuaty of a bittorrent based sync is that it can get around poor connections.

BT Sync worked well. Transferred ~5GB in 10 or so hrs.
