Sometimes I get this when I email my best mate using my favourite service:

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of
its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address
failed:

"xxxxxxxx@ihug.co.nz":
SMTP error from remote server in greeting:
host: zuul.ihug.co.nz:
pub.filter4.content.vf.net.nz
Your access to this mail system has been rejected due to the sending MTA's poor reputation. If you believe that this failure is in error, please contact the intended recipient via alternate means.

It doesn't happen all the time, just often enough to be really irritating. My email provider is GMX and it may well (not sure) have a bad reputation as a spam service, but I don't get this anywhere else and I don't spam and never have. Also, I can find no indication that my email address has been hijacked. I have a feeling this may be a case of an over-zealous filter. Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening? I do have gmail as backup but would prefer not to be blocked.

Was expecting something completely different with the "email kickback" subject :D

I would think you should be able to use Gmail as SMTP gateway when sending email (unless you are using some kind of webmail system). That way you might not have to deal with any blacklisting of your GMX gateway.

Probably not much you can do as its likely a false positive given that GMX provide email accounts for the public. Someone will have abused it and that's why their score is not great, although I couldn't find an issue with the score in the quick check I ran.

As above you could setup a relay through Gmail which may or may not solve the issue, generally speaking I see this cause more issues than not with the way people set it up.

Look up your domain using MXToolbox using the standard lookup and the blacklist check. That reveals many problems. Or PM me your email address if you want a hand - suggest you don't post email publicly.

OK thanks Timmmay. I did check the domain and it appears on two blacklists due to spamming from German IPs. They have nothing to do with me. GMX used to be a German-only free popmail service at a time when such were valuable. I managed to sneak onto it but later when they started an American domain, they forced me to switch to that. That one is .com while the others are .net and .de. The IPs marked as spammers are not .com but I seem to be getting caught in the net anyway.
