We have our domain name with freeparking.co.nz

Just got some alerts that our website and mail server are not available.

Getting Name not resolved

Just tried freeparking.co.nz and its dead as well.

Guess if they are down so are DNS records that they hold as well?

Their site is currently working fine for me from Spark fibre in Auckland

It's back up again. Was out for around 30 minutes from around 9.12pm.
Looks like maybe it dropped out for a minute or two an hour before that.

Perhaps they are having a few problems tonight.

Edit: I am on bigpipe fibre. They were down on downforeveryoneorjustme as well.

Nothing in their Status logs for today, but that's not uncommon in the industry!

I spoke with the ICONZ helpdesk and they got hold of the on call engineer - all fixed now.

Thanks for that - I knew it would not just be us that would be affected.

They are generally really reliable - so it was very unusual.

I didn't think it was owned by Iconz anymore?

I believe they still do, however considering ICONZ email and website wasn't working, I figured their caring factor was high - even if they didn't own it, they would have had the correct contacts.

Not sure, it is confusing. Looks like Iconz was sold to a Plan B, whoever that is, in Feb.And Freeparking was sold last year to Umbrella which is another new brand, and own brands like domainsforless, openhost, hostingdirect, flexihost, a whole lot of them.

Might be worth looking for a more resilient DNS provider. AWS's Route 53 DNS service guarantees 100% uptime, and can actually deliver on this with their globally distributed service.

Export from your existing DNS solution can be in the form of an export in bind format from your existing provider, or just copy and paste between the two.

While you are there, you might as well use the service for your Domain name hosting too.

I was with hostingdirect originally, but got tired of the numerous outages.

CloudFlare also do free DNS hosting, and it's also globally distributed. They will also optionally do caching and CDN for free. They also have paid plans for the WAF (web application firewall). I've found CloudFlare excellent, even though my sites are on AWS I use CloudFlare for DNS/CDN as it's cheaper than CloudFront but it seems as effective.

Just had a message confirming it was a DDOS on their name servers.
