Is it just me, or is Microsoft Software becoming more and more buggy these days.  I have a brand new Lenovo x3250 M5 server with Lenovo supplied Windows Server 2012 R2, installation completes and gets to the point of setting administrator password.  However hangs on "Finalizing your settings", been like this for over 3 hours now and apparently this is a well known issue.

Advice sought via Google search suggests Shift+F10 to bring up cmd and terminate problem processes in the tasklist, however cmd does not show scroll bars and there's no way to scroll up (not even keyboard shortcuts), hence can not see anything else but the last 6 processes in the list.  In a Linux console you just use Shift+Page Up, but there's no equivalent for Microsoft that I can find.

This is a big fail on Microsoft's part.

What are you installing Server from ?

Have you got the Windows boot drive sorted out in BIOS etc.?

Is there any hardware you can disable/switch off for the install?

Look at USB in particular. But, tape drives etc.. too, if you have them.

Just remove anything you can add later.

I'd more more inclined to blame Lenovo than I would Microsoft.

Server 2012 R2 is a rock solid reliable OS that I've deployed hundreds of times without ever seeing what you're describing.

Had USB CD drive plugged in and using the Lenovo supplied DVD to install.  The first thing I did in BIOS was configure raid1 with 2x 600GB SAS HDD's, then booted from DVD and installed.

In the end after waiting for quite some time, I forced a hard reboot, unplugged DVD drive and network and it eventually got past the "finalizing your settings" stage.  All seems ok now.

Sounds like my 4 day old Acer 2in1. Wouldn't upgrade, or restore. Was about to take it back when I gave it one last shot using media creation tool.

This ^^. 100%.

Id first start looking at your drivers to be honest, especially the USB host drivers because you are using a DVD->USB installation. But yea blaming MS for this is not the answer mate. Start looking to point the blame at Lenovo (hence why I recommend HP or Dells as a personal preference).
