I currently have a site on Hostgator in USA but after the first year they increase price it so I am looking for a local site.

We don't have big storage requirements and no idea what our data usage would be but would not think its massive. It's for a church so any suggestions for  a good hosting company in New Zealand.

Thanks

PS if this is the wrong forum apologies not sure where to post

Maybe you need to list your budget. Cpanel will also show the resources you are using.  To get good support, which is where much of the cost is, you don't want to be paying peanuts. Many of the cheap ones will contract out support to low wage countries like India. So it depends if you want NZ based support too, and to use a fully NZ owned company.

Many people say their usage isn't big, but if you use it for email, and you never delete email off the server, that can quickly use up a lot of your resources. I would recommend using the web host solely for the website, and using something like Gmail for email, so it they aren't connected.

Thanks for that. I dont have much mail and use forwarders to get it off so that's not a real problem  Budget well Hostgator for their Baby plan was around NZ$132.00 per year but then last year they increased it to NZ$200.00 per year and its going up again this year so it starts to get a bit expensive. SO anything that is cheaper than what I am paying should be a plus.

Support not too worried about that as long as the up time is positive and they have  all the usual services like PHP and SQL etc

It says the price is $5.95 per month (US I pressume), so I can't see how you are paying so much more. Why don't you go down to their hatchling plan, or are you hosting more than 1 website? You will be paying more if you have multiple websites as some hosts only allow one website per plan.  I guess the weak NZ dollar doesn't help.

There is an asterisk on the price which means that its only for the one year. Then the price hike starts. I dont want to have to keep paying more each year hence why I asked for suggestions based on other peoples use

HostGator used to be great, I left them a bit over a year ago because the site reliability and support declined below what I could tolerate. For basic cpanel hosting for a Wordpress or similar site most any host will do, but sitehost seems to be recommended quite often here.
