Ive searched high and low and have not been able to find an answer, plenty of people asking the question but not for office 365.

Seems like Office 365 simply applies Full Access and Send As permissions to all of the Shared Mailbox members with no way to change anything else other than send on behalf.

Looks like this may have been done to enable the Automap fature, which id like to retain if possible.

I assume I need to do the following -  use powershell to remove Full Access Permissions for each member, then re-add using only Publishing Author Permissions.

Surprised no one has scripted this or that there are not a lot of people wanting this ability?

Anyone been here before?

Your prediction regarding automap being lost is correct.

You remove their rights using the exchange admin interface. You can then use Set-MailboxFolderPermission to grant them access to the various mailbox folders using powershell. Remember to also apply '-AccessRights FolderVisible' to the top of information store by using 'mailboxname:\' as this will allow them to add the mailbox as an additional mailbox in outlook.

This is a good read
