Thinking of stepping back to design work. I use to do a lot of web app BA work including the BA work including the Wireframing and UX, usually Id have to do the SA's job as they usually didnt know the methods or classes I needed, then Id have to manage the projects and resources, including the testing etc and often they didnt have a dedicated database analyst so Id have to map all that out and clease data etc.

That was in Aus, which pays between $70-110 per hour plus super.

I imagine its a shed load less in NZ?

But I do enjoy working with people to make systems that work around them rather than doing general business analysis and designing stupid processes to get the people to work around the system. I have a strong disliking toward poor UX (TM cough cough).

Depends on the usual factors - skills and experience, the nature of the client, whether you are billing the client direct or through an agency and so on.

My wife works with a lot of BA's on the projects that she is usually on (for companies like Westpac, Fonterra etc) and said $100/hr (+/- 10% or so) if you are accounting for your own taxes etc is not out of the ballpark.

thats not too bad when we are 98c odd to the au, but when people run out of borrowed money to buy things on their paper capital gains and the economy dives and interest rates rise from 5% to 15% and the majority go bankrupt or ewrose and our dollar goes down to 75c again or worse haha. i wonder where mr key will be to address these borrowings and lowering of interest rates to keep the economy (consumer spending based economy) going? (or was it our vast amount of milk and lamb that kept us afloat lol).

on a serious note, thanks for that, i generally work in infrastracture, try to stay away from finance organisations, but still gives me an idea if i need to return to working for a wage.

BA, $70 - $110/hr, depends on experience. From a vendor more, up to $150. In my experience a great BA is invaluable, but you tend to have to interview a lot of BAs to find a great one.

SA, solution architect, $90 - $150/hr, if that's what you're referring to above. No SA I know of tends to be interested at the class level. We tend to work further up the stack, doing tasks like architecture to meet required security, reliability and performance goals, network design, stakeholder management, approvals, looking at applicable standards or legislation, estimates, etc. Developer would be the person looking at the class level.

PM similar rate to SA. DBA can be higher again if they have enough skills and experience.
