Is this just plausible spam? The website does seem to be domain registration.

Regarding registration of your company name "example.com", hereby send the confirmation letter,please read it carefully

We are an agency engaging in registering brand name and domain names. Today, Our center received an application from RIN Technologies Co., Ltd and they apply to register "example.com" as their brand name and some top-level domain names(.CN .HK etc). We found the main body of domain names is same as your company name. I am not sure about the relationship between you and them. Please tell me whether or not your company authorizes them to register names.

We are dealing with the application and we need to get a confirmation from you, please reply me an e-mail. Looking forward to your reply.

So you own the .com/.net etc of the name they want to register?

It seems they want your OK to register the names with .cn / .hk

I had something like this once from people in the EU, they wanted my .com name and even offered me a small amount of $$ for it. Problem is that my domain is linked to my google apps account and you can't transfer purchases so if i did take it then i would have to buy all my apps etc again.

It's spam. I have had the exact same email for a number of my domains all different. All they do is trawl the Whois records.

Think about it would the chinese government really give a dam about international name/trademark/copyright conflicts.

Yes I own the domain in question, and the "from" address is a domain registrar. I couldn't work out why they would care if someone else registers the same domain with a different suffix in a different country. I also can't see what they'd get out of it if I reply. The email went to "info@mydomain", not the contact on my whois records.

It was plausible enough to ask, but not quite plausible enough to reply to without asking around. I'll ignore it.

He doesn't care. In all likelyhood there's no one interested in registering the domains in those TLD they manage. The sender probably just wants you to go all "OMG I can't let anyone have my domain name in another TLD, I have to buy it now!"

All to get a bit of money from you.
