Looking at TOGAF training since i dont have much time for self study. I had originally booked with ALC but they turned out to be completely unprofessional . I have done some training with Auldhouse and they were nothing special. Is there any others people recommend?

I self studied and passed both levels of TOGAF 9.1. Other than the qualification on my CV it was almost a complete waste of time, and dead boring to boot. NZ's too small, no-one uses it, and it's just a memory exercise. Maybe if I had training I'd have seen more value in it, but I guess most trainers know the material rather than the practical applications of it.

They are all reselling the same ALC course, which you don't find out until a week prior.

I was not a fan. It did give me an understanding of some previous dysfunctional places of employment who were attempting (and failing) to do Enterprise Architecture. It was never stated that their methodology was TOGAF, but in hindsight it had the stench of it all over the place.

I don't regret learning it though, it means you can't get bamboozled by others who practice it.

Iam only doing it as it seems to be a requirement for anyone in the architect domain. Few guys at work in Australia did it and their response was mixed in terms of value.

Yeah, it's a checkbox to tick, but of little practical use.

Not really. Maybe as a status thing amongst architects themselves but not in the real world. Most managers of architects don't give a rats about TOGAF, in NZ anyway. I'm far more inclined to look at the quality of work that's been done in the past - review some designs for example. At architect level you get most of the info you need about someone from a conversation. It's easy to weed out the fakes by asking a couple of pointed questions that anyone but an architect would struggle with.
