Im looking for some "cheap" or free (open source) AD adminsitration software....

We have about 15 individual domains (dont ask why we havent centralized) to administer, and at the moment pretty much manually add/remove users as they come and go..... which is unfortuntely quite often as we run courses so students come and go all the time.

Im in the process of using ADUser to help cut down on some of the time adding users, but overall Im after something that will allow multiple domain administration with options of bulk user importing from CSV etc.

I have found ADManager Plus which is great, but the free version is limited to 100 users and 1 domain. We would look at the Standard/Pro version, but they have an annual fee system which is a tad annoying.....

Does anyone know of anything that will allow the above at a "cheaper rate" as it were ? :)

TIA

XPD / Gavin

The cheapest way to do it would be to build up a library of scripts that you can use for the tasks you perform. You can also make a reasonably nice front-end to the scripts by running them in an HTA. The TechNet Scripting Center has lots of examples and I can help out too if there's something specific you're looking for. There are command line tools that do import/export to/from CSV files - csvde.exe is one I can think of off the top of my head.

Also, are you using the latest version of the Adminpak? The saved queries feature in ADUC is very helpful to me - I always set up several queries which help to do mass-administration, though that may not work as well across 15 domains.

Personally, I'd be cautious using cheap/free software to manage my AD as if something went wrong with it, there could be terrible consequences.

You should give Dameware NT utilities a try. It's not free though but pretty sure it has a 30 day trial. It's awesome when your infrastructure is in a bit of a mess.
