Hey team,

A friend and I are conducting a survey to get an idea of the state of the cloud storage market for consumers. The survey is about 60 questions long and takes less than 5 minutes to complete. As a thanks to those that fill it out, we are supplying one random respondent with a 50 dollar voucher to the store/website of their choice.

Survey link: https://goo.gl/forms/pfWsFj3ZlQLpXPvk1

Thanks!

I'm a geek, a gamer, a dad, a Quic user, and an IT Professional. I have a full rack home lab, size 15 feet, an epic beard and Asperger's. I'm a bit of a Cypherpunk, who believes information wants to be free and the Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it. Done, until I reached the captcha at the end. I don't do those anymore because I'm sick of them endlessly repeating the challenges even when I get them all right.

I only had to tick that I was not a robot. No pictures to select. Easy enough.Yes, Google knows a lot about me.

Never seems to work for me. I always get endless repeat challenges. But I am also  never signed into Google, and that is how I like it.

Are you focusing on consumer grade services like dropbox? Are you considering enterprise storage like Amazon S3, Backblaze B2? How about backup vendors like Crashplan?

That's fair. Unfortunately, they are a necessity to prevent people spamming the questionnaire. We don't like them either!

Thanks pal. Good luck in the draw!

At this stage, we are just getting a feel for the market. The main focus at this stage is, as you say, consumer grade services. We will definitely consider business and enterprise solutions too.

Done it, however... "Cloud storage" seems to be treated in the survey as more of a remote storage solution. I actually use OneDrive for storage/sync but also use Crashplan for backup. The survey hints at backup but the questions aren't really geared that way. So I answered with a focus on OneDrive really.

That's a fair assessment. At this stage, we are more interested in responses geared towards OneDrive like services, so thanks for that. We'll certainly take your feedback into account.

Thanks for taking the time and good luck in the draw.

I struggled with this aspect too. I ticked three services that I use and pay for for different reasons (iCloud, Dropbox, and CrashPlan). It was difficult to answer some questions when my response is different depending on which service we're discussing.

Otherwise a pretty quick and straight forward survey.
