So we are quite invested in our CRM, vTiger (hosted in-house with lots of mods). It has an inventory system which works just fine. But it is very manual, and it ultimately means it is not super up to date all the time.
We don't keep a lot of stock on the shelf, but we do move a lot of stock from suppliers to customers. A lot of this stuff is out on either maintenance contracts or finance contracts so serial numbers are key. At the moment this is a super manual process of entering serials in to the CRM, then assigning the "asset" to the customer, blah blah blah.
So really what I am looking for is a stock management system, but the key feature I am after is barcode scanning with smartphones. I can picture having the sales order, and the the tech on-site (or support tech in office), can scan out stock against the sales order. It wouldn't even need to do it against a sales order, if we could just get barcodes from a smartphone camera in to a database is really all I want to end up doing as could then script it further from there.
Ideally this is something we can host in-house and, of course, if it is open source even better. Certainly not adverse to paying for a good product, just not going to go whole hog in a massive ERP system as we can manage just fine. And don't really want a per user/per month cloud product, as if that's the case will just get a Xero add-on.
Lots of googling keeps leading my around in circles back to big boy software.
