Does anyone have any experience with payment express tokens for variable direct debits? We are implementing new billing system but a full credit card interface is out of spec (I understand credit cards are difficult hands down due to privacy regulations etc).

We are already using payment express but only their online portal which lets us set up fixed DDs (not variable)

One way our dev/consultant suggested was to use payment express tokens, we could store this on our system and run the variable dds with unique tokens, then upload the dd file to payment express

Have contacted payment express regarding this and waiting for their call. Interested to hear from NZ perspective

Oops was also going to ask about credit card surcharges. Any experience with passing this through to customer directly via PE ? We'd like this to appear as a separate line item on the customers credit card statement

This is not an option unless you want to do 2 separate transactions - an option I don't recommend.

If your using a hosted payment express page you have the ability to pass messaging around the cost due to credit cards. To be honest I would just expect this to be clear during your checkout process on your own site. PBtech is a good example, they make it very clear prior to sending you on to the payment page hosted by Payment Express

Can I ask why? We would clearly advise the customer of the surcharge. 2 separate transactions is more transparent

Thanks. We'd definitely ensure the customer is aware of the surcharge. We are only looking to recover our merchant fees from our bank, we're charged just under 3% on sales volume.
