Hi All,

I work for a small firm that builds various self service KIOSKs that use unattended EFTPOS units.

We've been working with Payment Express but have realised the fees we're paying (equipment purchase, equipment lease and EFTPOS transaction fees $0.30/transaction) all seem to be much higher than "regular" EFTPOS units, say a corner store/dairy might have.

I was wondering if anyone else has any experience in this industry? We're quite new to it ourselves and went with Payment express as our original supplier used them by default.

Also, payment express as a company is a nightmare to work with, slow responding support, account setup, etc.

Cheers!

The downside to considering purchasing like many of the dairies do with the frontal cost appearing cheaper, is every time paymark or the banks decide to update the security protocols you are often in for a new machine.

I've seen a tonne of machines be binned over the years after they got to about firmware V6 as they weren't compatible with the new measures or features to secure transmission between unit and handset

Then come paywave and oh look, updated model required.

Rental agreement where the upgrades are guaranteed is likely to be better in the long run.

Very good points, and totally agree with lease vs. buying.

We've been quoted $2k+ p/a for rental of unattended machines and then we've been told that store owners can get EFTPOS machines for less than $20/month which has left us scratching our heads a bit...

Speak with a bank e.g. ANZ who are one of the eftpos barons of this country.

I run a small shop, and the fees for eftpos are quite high ... we pay ~$69 per month to rent a terminal (GPRS unit), then ~$32 per month to Paymark to be allowed it on the network, then a % charge per credit card transaction (minimum $20 per month) to the bank ... Starts to add up!

The self-service kiosks that I am involved with use Payment Express as the payment gateway, and I have found that their support is very good over the years - especially during the recent EFTPOS change over.

In our case, the end-use customers pays for the annual lease of the EFTPOS pinpads, and I think it's around $30-$40 per Pinpad, per year, as well as any account servicing fees, etc. Usually the customer can get a better deal as they would have associated bank accounts they can negotiate with.

Could try out a system like Vend, that may be feasible if the fees work out similar.

You should shop around. Do you really need a GPRS unit? Do you take payments out and about, like on deliveries? or are you selling from a store only? a more basic terminal might be better. Paymark charge about $15 per terminal connection, do you have more than one terminal? Have you purchased other services from them, e.g. Paymark Insights (a reporting tool)?
