Hello, I've been looking at some options for an additional VPS provider preferrable Geographically close to NZ. I was wondering whether anyone had any recommendations for a service NZ/AU that is reliable.
I've also looked at the pricing of vmcentral.com and they look like good prices (8 core Linux) https://www.vmcentral.com.au/vps-hosting/linux-vps/
But havn't found much info on the business itself.

AWS Sydney Lightsail. US$160 for 8 cores, 32GB RAM, 640GB SSD, 7TB bandwidth. You get access to useful features like firewalls, and other bits and pieces. The price scales down with other resources. To scale up and down isn't difficult - snapshot and create a new instance.

Full AWS EC2 with those specs costs a lot more, mostly because of bandwidth pricing. With moderate bandwidth the price is a bit more than the provider you linked to above.

Lightsail complexity isn't bad. Full AWS is fairly complex, enterprise grade.

Thanks, havn't dealt much with Amazon but pricing is about the same, so will have a decent look at it.

AWS Lightsail is fairly cheap, and is using the same enterprise grade equipment that runs AWS / EC2. You can upgrade to EC2 later if you want to, and integrate with other AWS services. Lightsail is made to be simpler than AWS, which is really quite complex.

I often see the phase VSP and wonder what people are actually looking for, dedicated VM resources or shared (container) based services?

I'm a big fan of Vultr - they have a Sydney data centre which is about 37ms latency from Wellington.

I did a lot of research before selecting them - they have great performance and features.

They look really good, had not heard of them before. Interestingly they are promoting Skylake as being their flagship (faster) offering, but that's already 4 year old technology. So if performance and modern hardware is a consideration then keep that in mind.

Another +1 for Vultr's Sydney hosts. Have been really happy with the services they offer, and at a great price. If you are looking for something close to home, Catalyst Cloud might also be an option. If you require managed support, Rimu Host (based in Cambridge NZ) have been well recommended as well,

Would recommend chatting to RansomIT / Oliver (Not sure if he is on these forums, but is active on LowEndTalk) but they offer both NZ/Aus Locations for around the same pricing as you linked - Aus available in multiple locations

I changed my post as I respect that stance, but yes - I generally just like to help kiwi businesses get things moving. In some situations we have provided free resources to start-ups while they get their idea off the ground, then they start paying or move to something else, either way it's a win for NZ.

Great thank you heaps to look at there.
Will give Lightsail a look first - Re: Ec2 I don't have the time to setup an elastic hosting environment - pureflow.io has that setup but pricing wasn't going to be effective compared to our current implementations. Would like to support smaller operations if it worked out but there is alot of security with the bigger companies, nothing like non-billable time and client complaints to make life difficult.

I was surprised at that statement so had to go check... According to this -- https://en.wikichip.org/wiki/intel/microarchitectures/skylake_(server) -- the Skylake architecture for server chips was first introduced in May 2017 - less than two years ago. Ah, you're right - I was just thinking when I first had it in a PC (2015-ish). Servers come later.

I've been using Vultr for the last 18 months and they've been great. I love being able to create new instances to test with using a snapshot.
