I'm pretty sure the answer is not but is it possible to transfer a domain without knowing the UDAI.

The company I work for someone had tried to transfer our domain to a different provider, now I am the only one with that information and its kept secure in my emails which have 2FA. The information is not printed out or kept anywhere else.

All DNS records have not been responding all day and a WHOIS showed the domains status as pending release 210 which is had a few months left before renewal was due.

I now have to work out how I have to explain this so my manager.

Contact the registrar to find out what is going on. If it is pending release, I think that would indicate that it has been cancelled. Maybe it has epxired? Also UDAIs expire after about 30 days, so you usually always need to generate a new one to transfer it.

Is this question actually about getting into your emails to clean this skid mark up? Is the 2FA dead in the water without the DNS working? Can you talk to the last DNS provider you have had an existing business relationship with for help? Can you make the 2FA work by creating the appropriate hosts file entries on your PC or does it depend on a remote server resolving a host on your unavailable domain?

Is it a NZ domain or international?

Yep this error would mean it needs renewing.

Renew it and it will probably sort the DNS issue (esp if you are using the registrars DNS )

Thanks for the info, I never received the usual advanced notice of expiry which I normally get in January. The CSR told me the domain had a month before it expires and their online portal does;t show expiry information.

He did say to me that someone had tried to transfer it to another registrar but I am now wondering if I have been told porkies because their system screwed up.

Domain notifications go to me and the finance department so its not something that could be easily missed.

Thanks again for everyones help, I'm sure i'll get to the bottom of this.

You should also make sure that you keep a record of your domains expiry date, which you can also find by doing a whois lookup on the domain, or going to the DNC.org.nz webiste. You will likely find that the reminders the registrar sends you are just a courtesy reminder email, especially as email isn't 100% reliable. I suspect it has just expired..
