Hi

I'm after general thoughts & recommendations on alternatives to HP ML350 server's

Im getting the run around trying to spec out an HP . So looking at other brands .

Ive only sold HP servers till now , I have no experience with the other Brands .

ie Dell, Lenovo, Supermicro etc

Just general thoughts good/bad . ( Support, parts availability, reliability etc )

I have tried most of them over the years, HP is the gold standard in my opinion and unless clients have a very specific non-negotiable requirement, we don't offer anything else. If I was picking a second choice it would be Lenovo/IBM.

Lenovo support can be a hit and miss, especially with the tower servers which are not sold that often these days.

I would go with the Dell ones instead of HP

Very much disagree.. I'm with Networkn, HP is the gold standard, followed by Lenovo.

I have a strong dislike for anything Dell, though I will grugingly admit their very high end servers are reasonable. Having said that, Dell service and support sucks almost every single time I've used it, and I don't like the way they do business, so I'll do whatever I can to avoid them.

Everyone has their favourite server vendor.  Ours is HPE as well.

We supported a client who stuck with Dell servers for years as he had an existing agreement with Dell Financial Services on a three year lease cycle.  Three servers in 9 years all had hardware failures (not including the occasional hard drive failure) before he admitted defeat and let me supply an HPE server for the next refresh cycle.

Heh, one of my clients had a wife who worked for Dell. Supplied them the Enterprise workstations GX9xx with premium support. We used that Support a LOT. 40 machines and over 5 years, 48 failures of hardware.

To Dell's credit, they were almost always fixed promptly and the first time.

End the end they had 4 HP SFF machines sitting in the corner "spare" that never once failed.

that's a bit odd, the NZ HPE disty's are usually pretty good - although Easter and Anzac day may have caused an issue

Are you after something a bit unusual?

regards,

Clint
