Morning all,

I heard that the current dev version of Edge works on Windows 7. It's not officially supported, but it does indeed run. For those interested, you can get it from https://www.microsoftedgeinsider.com/en-us/download/?platform=win10.

Now for my question. When I launch it, it pops up with "Administrator Mode Detected - Close Microsoft Edge and relaunch in non-administrator mode for best performance". Does anyone know how to do this? If I go to Properties on the shortcut and open the Compatibility tab, "Run this program as an administrator" is not selected. Where else do I need to look?

Check if UAC is enabled or set to permissive. That's the only thing I can really think of

Hi! I'm TheoM, but you know that already. I run Linux mirrors in NZ together with 2degrees. Like a mirror added? PM me!

I'm not all that familiar with UAC, but it doesn't seem to be the issue. It was set to "never notify", but changing to "always notify" doesn't seem to have had any effect.

Never notify puts UAC into permissive mode. It's still there, but administrative powers are granted without UAC asking if it's okay. Once you've set it to always notify (the highest security option iirc) you'll need to reboot. UAC doesn't like switching modes on the fly

You were right; changing to "default" and rebooting got rid of the Edge prompt. I've returned it to "never notify" (it'll be set to that for a reason!) so I wonder whether there's a workaround to stop Edge from pestering me...

I haven't been able to find a workaround. I did try running with UAC turned up by one notch, which did stop the prompts, but it broke something else (and was short-lived anyway, as Group Policy or something came along and turned it off again).
