 We are writing to let you know about a change to your subscription to CrashPlan for Small Business. Beginning on September 1, 2019, CrashPlan’s monthly subscription and renewal price will change to A$16.49 per device, which includes GST. “

You could go back to the huge thread about online backup options, spend the time to choose a new provider or roll your own and the extra time that takes... or just pay them.

I still use CloudBerry Backup to sync data with AWS S3. I don't store huge amounts of data so the cost is about $1 per month.

Was just a general 'bah' thread to let others know.

The backup 'just works' so will stick with it. $32.98 for my two devices each month. About 6TB at the moment.

I'm almost at the point of investing in LTO. I have around 18TB with CrashPlan. S3 doesn't appear to be an option at that volume, and if I'm reading it correctly, the restore costs would half pay for the LTO drive.

I got one of these too. So its about $17.26 NZD at present. This makes it $207 per year and of course if you really want to use it, it's a lifetime commitment at that price (or at any future price). So even if you work out over 3 years (the typical minimum drive warranty, $621 buys you quite a few drives for most people that you can probably fit your stuff on and store in a fireproof safe or at another house.

Crashplan's restore isn't perfect and has become quite clunky. So shop around depending on how much data you have - definitely. Consider your options otherwise. For me, I'll be reconsidering which things need a live backup and probably using a service that costs less for a smaller amount. S3 and their cold storage option aren't too bad.

The other question is that there is yet another price hike by Crashplan when disk storage prices are only reducing. That does make me think the company is not in a good position or has a longer term plan to be somewhere else.

Isn't this the time that the crashplan home 'cheap upgrade' to business was due to expire as I got the same email; works out at $10 USD per device as it should be. I still can't find a suitable replacement that is offering me 'unlimited' backup for a setprice. I have a custom docker image that has Crashplan installed running on my NAS and it backs up the entire storage array which also includes all my virtual machine backups etc.

$10USD is currently $14.09 NZD according to BNZ. Whereas the price we're given today is over $17. That works out at 11.22 USD. Which I must admit doesn't sound like much.

That doesnt sound so bad. I'd admit it's confusing. It's billed in USD, email states price in AUD.

If it's only 1$ I'm not really so fussed.. It's more effort to select an alternative service and move everything....

Yep, I nearly cancelled, but like last time, it's still probably the cheapest backup service around, which makes me OK with some of it's quirks.

It looks like they have adjusted the Australian price to be consistent with US pricing. When CrashPlan launced in Australia, the Australian dollar was higher. The problem is it doesn't take in to account other economic factors. New Zealand customers, who generally enjoy the lowest salaries of all three, get penalised for paying in a third currency.

So the price we're getting is the (USD x approx. exchange rate) + GST. The US price of $10 does not include any sales tax etc. so while it seems cheaper, US companies will pay more as well due to localised sales taxes.... but as I've said.. for me, I can't see any other service that can allow unlimited versioning of my VM data and general storage all from a NAS for the price... Having lost so much data on various drives over the years I'm happy to pay to secure data, especially in light of versioning which will allow me to get back data from corruption or malware infection (as long as the data was corrupt or encrypted on original upload)
