After trying this morning to solve this I suddenly thought it might i might find tech help here. I bought a new laptop and was so pleased to get it fully set up this weekend. Until I sent an email. If you can help with the following message from Thunderbird please advice your fee. But I need this running ASAP - my business is in the cloud so relies on email. I use TeamViewer in my business so am happy to take support remotely.

What message?

If your business is so important you should be using 365 or some such service with SLA and support?

Sorry - I tried to upload an image of the message but for some reason, it didn't come through.

Sending of the message failed.
Peer's certificate has an invalid signature.
The configuration related to securemail.insire.net,nz must be corrected.

My wife's machine still works - it's only when I tried to send a message on my new PC. I have talked with Inspire and tried a few SMTP settings - no change.

I generally avoid anything to do with MS if at all possible. I've been OK for over a decade - main problems are with Windows. (I used to use OS/2 before a stroke forced me to rely on my wife for support - plus I need to run Windows programs for clients.)

I can still get emails - just not reply to them.

Contact your mail provider.  Fix the problem with their help, given it appears to be something they need to assist with.

Then move to Office 365.

Looks like you've misconfigured your mail client. Suggest you use webmail until you get it fixed.

securemail.inspire.net.nz needs to be set up first ( I assume this has been done already ) and Authenticated

I.e. Username: the first part of your email address, for example, 'joebloggs' if your email address was joebloggs@inspire.net.nz

There might be a tick box in thunderbird to use the same credentials as the incoming mail server but it has been many years.

Tick SSL and make sure you are on port 465.

24 hours after starting I have the problems solved. (I wasn't just one issue and my stroke-affected memory can't recall the details but after using MSM the message changed and relatively quickly led me to a setting in Avast disabling it for SMTP. Finally, my new PC is running sweetly (it's my first SSD) and after a good night's sleep I'll start on client work tomorrow.
Thanks everyone.
