BNZ signs on as flagship customer for Microsoft New Zealand datacenter region  

 

So, why does Microsoft intend to build a new data center? Don't we already have lots of these things?

 

And what is a 'data center', anyway? I'd hate to think they're just some sort of clearing hub for teenage chatterers.

Nations around the world are getting more "Nationalistic" about data and Privacy, NZ is no different

 

I imagine that large users (and future potential users) particularly the government will have been pushing the large cloud providers to "on shore" data as much as possible, and I suspect that the other big boys will also look to establish a physical presence in NZ in the next few years...
