When registering .com domains most registrars offer a private registration option to keep your personal address etc. out of public whois records. Does anyone know if any .nz registrars offer this service?

I don't mind my name and phone # being on the whois record but would prefer to keep my home address private. I suppose paying $10-20/month for a PO BOX is an option?

Have a read of 4 steps to protect your privacy in .nz domain name space » Domain Name Commission NZ (dnc.org.nz)

There are certain contact fields that can be kept from being exposed.

There is domain privacy(IRPO) for the .nz namespace for free.  The only requirement is you must register as an individual, not as a business.  Businesses are not entitled to it.

Talk to your registrar to see if they can update it, may require changing your account to an individual if it's on business already.

Just a note that I've heard of some NZ registrars trying to charge for this service. I have several domains with Metaname.nz, and it's a simple checkbox to enable privacy. Read the above link for more details, but the privacy mode will only hide your phone number and address; your name and email will still be displayed.

Thanks @johnmo and others for the responses. I didn't see the privacy option when I registered my domain so will go back and double check.

Metaname also do this (for free) and highly recommend them also.

My domains were with domains4less and then migrated to Crazydomains. I found the option to enable whois privacy and they're charging $10 per domain for it.

The XML required to enable IRPO for .nz domain names goes like this:

<DomainUpdate...>
   <DomainNameFilter>example.nz</DomainNameFilter>
      <RegistrantContact Privacy='1'...>
         <PostalAddress...></PostalAddress>
         <Phone...></Phone>
      </RegistrantContact>
      ...
</DomainUpdate>

It's possible that the XML must be prepared manually by support staff, which would justify the cost, though once IRPO is enabled, it doesn't need to be re-enabled periodically, it just stays enabled, so I'd hope that's a one-off charge.

I have a domain with 1st Domains and I have enabled 'domain privacy'. This appears to have withheld my address details as the registrant but it is still showing those details as the admin contact, hence completely defeating the purpose!

Is this normal?

Registrant details are those that you must provide and that it's presumed privacy applies to.

The Admin and Tech contact information published is as you provide it. Just edit their contents.
