Never seen a perfect circle before. I guess its only mild impact damage ???

Just doing a full disk backup. then im going to pull the screen apart as there is no physical damage from or back of the screen

 

just educational interest at this point. already setup a new laptop for the end user.

As you indicate there is no evidence of damage, consider a warranty or CGA claim before pulling it apart.

Good point. have checked warranty based on serial number... ran out a few years ago. Unit has a Windows 8 sticker on he reverse to give you an idea of its age.

 

Battery seems good ... lasted at least 2 hours so far.

not seen anything in side lcd screens like that before. Maybe a magnet in the bag it was kept in ?? no idea not been provided with that.

I agree with this theory. I think you have delamination occurring with the liquid crystal layer being progressively destroyed, possibly caused by ingress of water or air. The discoloured halo around the black circle indicates a possible pressure difference caused by the delamination.
