We have more than 30 domains (mixture of .co.nz .com.au and .com) which are currently registrar'd with Freeparking (who we have supported for ever until now), but we are ready to vote with our feet as the quality of service and support decreases and administrative errors are increasing. We also get unsolicited phone calls from them which I reckon is bad form from a security perspective, and the calls continue even though we have asked them to desist.

Any suggestions? 1stDomains? Metaname?

Metaname have been good to me. They expect technical people to know what they are doing but for that you get an API and something that works as expected.

We use sitehost and have no issues at all. Easy UI to manage DNS and redirects, quick support and also NZ local.

+1 for Metaname. Not the cheapest, but the UI is basic, they don't change it constantly and you don't have to click through and decline pages of add-on features just to renew a domain.

Another vote for Metaname. Just remember to fully qualify your DNS entries with a "." at the end as per the instructions on the same page.

But support are great, and they just work. You also get discounts for having more domains with them.

1stdomains (Owned by Voyager IIRC) and metaname are who I use.

Avoid anything to do with FreeParking, they sold off to Umbrella (Opnehost etc who then sold off to CrazyDomains who made a bad service even worse) a few years ago and its gone downhill ever since.

Freeparking has always worked well for me. You can telephone them if needed. I'm happy to pay more for domains with Freeparking to have that telephone support if needed.

I also use Metaname for some domains, but expect to be 'on my own but with email support if needed' with this cheaper player.

Definitely Sitehost, haven’t needed a lot of support but they were very good when we did need them.

@danfaulknor from Prodigi is well worth a mention.

I had a really bad experience with one of the global owned NZ domain companies.

Purchased a .kiwi domain and long story short, still stuck on pending, tried support and got 3rd tier which didn't know, passed on to 2nd tier...

In the end had to purchase same domain else where to secure it and now waiting to get a refund and still waiting for first support email reply.

I'm sure Metaname does the job but their website does not inspire confidence in their service. I recently switched to Google domains from Crazy Domains. So far, so good.

+1 for metaname. They put in MFA ages ago, even though the site looks "basic" it does it what needs to do.

Since approx mid 2021 Freeparking seem to have started billing batches of domains for renewals 30 days in advance, presumably to simplify invoicing when there are multiple domains falling within a 30-day random window. Not very tasty business practice, and possibly unlawful?

As a business owner, I'd prefer to pay one invoice a month instead of several smaller ones. The renewal dates are still the same so nobody is losing out.

When I was with Metaname they gave us one invoice per month for all renewals and now Sitehost do the same for me.

Certainly makes it much easier to pay one invoice.
