In about 10 mins time it will be announced that BDT are closing, not just here in new zealand but worldwide! This isn't good news..
They are the local distributors for Western Digital, Adata and several other top brands, one can only hope that dove picks these brands up or you can expect prices to rise. Looks like IT isnt immune from the recession!

BDT isn't closing completely, just their computer division. They will still be doing their Mitsubishi line, there is actually money in that.

Yup just got an email from them saying that it is closing the Electronics Division (Computer OEM) on 31st March 2009.
Mitsubishi Electric division will continue as normal.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

Dove has distributed Adata direct from Adata for years

BDT as in the company formerally known as melco?  Didnt even know they were still around! Havent dealt with them for years!  Ive heard thru the rumor mill that there may be a few wholesalers closing in the not too distant future.  Definately alot of downsizing with wholesalers going on in Auckland!

Yep, BDT used to be Melco.

BDTs brands overlap with quite a few other disties, so im really not too supprised to hear they are closing unfortunetly. I would be interested to know what effect Altech (and Gigabyte) had on the decision.

There is just no money as a IT disti/reseller these days. Half of the problem however has been caused by the disties themselves.

What concerns me is that BDT was one of two MS OEM distributors in NZ. I wonder what will happen to OEM pricing when the competition is gone..... Hell, not just concered about pricing, also concerend about the ability of the other OEM disti to be able to ship the product out the door reliably.
