My client wants to upgrade the store security cameras in his grocery store along with the NVR that just packed up yesterday.

Currently there are 19 cameras inside and out, all connected to a 20 channel recorder via BNC plugs  (it's a mess).

CCTV installation is not something I do as a rule, so looking for a quality system that is easy to install & configure.

Budget is up to $2K.

Cheers

I think the budget of 2k for a commercial grade cctv setup is not possible. you'd be lucky to rewire and fit the cams for 2k,

Very roughly I think he'll be in for

https://www.aliexpress.com/store/1200032?spm=a2g0s.8937474.0.0.687a2e0enSYkDd

Of empire tech alliexpress

Cams x 20 at 150 - 200 usd total 3 - 4kusd

Nvr 16 channel + and 8 channel 500usd

Storage media 2knzd easy

wiring and fit out, + config and support (unkown if not agent supplied)

If your friend can't navigate install and support the system, he needs to seek an installed system.

I agree that the budget is not sufficient for the requirements you give.  My recommendation would be getting a quote for a professionally installed system, and then discuss options with your client from there.

Yeah I really don't want to mess around installing cameras, I would still like recommendations though. If the equipment was second hand - would $2K be reasonable?

I live in rural Northland so professionals can be difficult to find at times.

Even if I don't do the install I want to ensure my client doesn't get shafted on the hardware. I've seen two clients burnt by electricians who charged $3,000 for bottom shelf NVR + 4 cameras.

It's $$$ in all directions,

But check out the Empiretech alliexpress store.

They have great English firmware camera's and you can choose your level of spend as its almost wholesale.

Andy there rep have a good reputation and I have spent 4-6k with them over the years.

If u need to get going quickly

A good option might be to do a benefit analysis on cameras maybe 8 are on till's high value stock etc.

Grab a synology nas they have a calculator on there site for the ratio of Nas/Cams/Storage get some cams from pbtech or elsewhere, use the coax to pull through cat 5/6.

What does your client want to achieve, quality-wise?

Increase the budget a bit.

Dahua, UNV (Uniview) and Hikvision are still the best for price and quality (IMO).

Factor around $150-300 per camera. Get good ones for the key areas (entry, registers) and average ones would do alright for each aisle.

Absolute minimum I would consider is 10TB of storage for that many cameras so you had a week of 24/7 video.

I'm Dahua and Axis at home.

My Dahua NVR is $2k NZD.... talk about your budget lol. (I have an NVR with on board AI and it's aimed at stores to count visitor metrics and intergrade with registers).

A decent enough 32ch NVR should be about $1k NZD.

I've bought from EmpireTech Andy before as well. Very good customer service in messages and he replaced a PTZ under warranty within a week.

If you are that low budget, then get a new DVR or 2 that have some form of analog HD support, and some drives for it. That will get you running immediately.

Most of them will let you repurpose some of the channels to be IP sourced so you can add and upgrade cameras as time goes on.

You can upgrade the cameras to analog HD to keep using the existing cables. They are really cheap and the 1080 ones are quite acceptable quality wise and a bargain when you consider the no cable upgrade costs.

It's a supermarket owner they have plenty of bank. If the budget is only 2k for 19 camera system just walk away.

Run, don't walk. You're going to put something terrible in, have to support it for free and get blamed when it doesn't work.

There's no winning with that budget.

OP said "Grocery store", so it should be quite clear it's NOT a supermarket owner.. I used to do the server builds for CCTV at a large supermarket chain. We were putting in ~50k of server alone, never mind the actual cameras (of which there were in excess of 300 for larger stores). $2000 budget says "large dairy".
