I use Webdrive who lease space in Maxnet's data centre. Highly recommend them.

National traffic will be cheap, it will be the international capacity (if any) that pushes the price up.

+1 for maxnet.

I'm doing some research at the moment for 1U colo space, and have to admit that hosting direct's pricing is very competitive.

Yeah but when you pay for hosting you're paying for uptime, there's no point in paying money to only have uptime equal to as good as your dsl connection. Well thats just my 2c based on their SLA... granted though their pricing is certainly very tempting

I would definately tour it to be sure though, probably they are just leasing space in somebody elses data centre?

Do a quick search of the nz PHPUG for hostingdirect and see some of the comments there pretty sure they were hacked a few years ago and were down for awhile.  Havent heard much about them lately though so theyve obviously got better.

Not really relevant when I'm wanting to colo a server, but good to know none the less.

That depends greatly on how your server is connected, Its fine if they are literally just reselling space in their cabinet and in reality your getting everything provided by the data center direct with your own dedicated port.  Its completely different if your server is plugged into your resellers firewall then your reliant on them.
