I'm creating a webapp and I need it to be able to send out appointment emails that people can accept/decline etc...

I'm sending an email with an ICS file attached.

GMail picks this up nicely but Outook just sees it as an email with an attachment that I then have to double click on... It doesn't behave how it would if I got an appointment from someone else.

Anyone got any experience with this kind of thing????

That's common practice.  All they need to do is double click the attachment to add it to the calendar.  Some, like Gmail, may better recognise the ics file and do something with it, but it won't be the same with every mail provider.
