Developing situation but not great that the board considers him to be obfuscating information... Given the risks of AI it makes you question everything he's said publicly now. Which we should all be doing anyway....

Super unusual. The board statement referenced benefit to humanity and the founding charter. That makes it sound like your hypothesis.

The other thing is OpenAI is in a funding round yet to close. The issue may have been something related to that and the other thing.

I imagine Altman will be heading straight for xAI with an offer from Musk sometime soon.

To say this is big news is an understatement. He spoke at the APEC summit just yesterday.

And I just read that 3 senior OpenAI researchers have resigned in the wake of this. I wonder what we don't know.

Looks like he's gone to Microsoft. Apparently Emmett Shear (Twitch co-founder) is taking his place.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

This has been the most ridiculous few days.

Now, after he's been tentatively reinstated, a letter to the board from concerned ex employees emerges.

That was this morning.  Tonight he's back at OpenAI.  He's not back at Microsoft until tomorrow morning.

Or a state of Superposition, having gone Quantum.

Microsoft own 49% of Open AI, so I suppose they kinda still have a lot of him either way.

True Open Source projects have had splits.
I suppose this party commercial, partly non commercial monster is a wilder ride.

By all accounts he is a highly driven individual, so going slowly is absolutely not his style.

Wikipedia page seems a bit thin but there is this.

Altman is a prepper.[3][61] He said in 2016: "I have guns, gold, potassium iodide, antibiotics, batteries, water, gas masks from the Israeli Defense Force, and a big patch of land in Big Sur I can fly to."[3]

So, did Emmett Shear even get to walk through the front doors? Rather short lived interim CEO position, it would seem.

They own 49% of the for profit subsidiary, that is overseen by the non profit OpenAI board (and supposedly profit capped)

Wonder if he got a golden handshake after his service at Microsoft?

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Dodged a bullet there, based on all the reading I've done about the guy in the last few days.
