From press release:

Aotearoa’s united voice for the technology ecosystem this week introduced its new identity: Tech New Zealand. The name brings together the organisation previously known as NZTech and the Tech Alliance under one clear, connected banner.

The new identity reflects the organisation’s evolution into a nationwide network of 16 Communities, representing thousands of organisations across areas including artificial intelligence, agritech, fintech, SaaS, biotech, digital identity and education technology.

Tech New Zealand now serves as the steady centre of the ecosystem — a place where individual strengths become collective progress. Each Community maintains its own governance and specialist focus, united by a shared commitment to advancing technology’s contribution to Aotearoa’s future.

Chief Executive Graeme Muller says the refreshed brand offers greater clarity for members, partners and government.

“Our Communities have grown stronger and more interconnected over time. Tech New Zealand gives us a clear and cohesive way to express that collective effort — and the impact our ecosystem delivers for Aotearoa’s future.”

Brand and Marketing Manager Courteney Peters, who led the two-year brand development programme alongside design agency, Curative, says the identity brings long-standing collaboration to the foreground.
“This rebrand doesn’t change who we are — it simply makes our structure and purpose clearer. Tech New Zealand gives us the language to show how our Communities work together, and the confidence to tell that story with unity and humility.”

The new brand will roll out across digital channels, events and reports in the coming months.

Q&A: Background Information for Media

Was the rebrand member-driven or driven by NZTech?

It was board-driven — and the board comprises elected representatives of our member organisations.

What structural changes have been made?

The shift to Tech New Zealand is about clarity, not structural change.

The Tech Alliance brand was introduced in 2016 to bring tech communities together.
Over the past decade, the organisation has evolved into a connected network of Communities.
Our constitution has always enabled Communities to operate with their own governance and work programmes, while being part of one legal entity.

The updated brand clarifies this structure rather than modifying it.

A legal name change to Tech New Zealand is planned for the future, alongside work to simplify multi-memberships. The rebrand is the first step.

What will change for members under the Tech New Zealand banner?

Members will primarily see greater clarity and visibility:

A clearer expression of how Communities connect and work together.
A unified identity that better reflects the scale and diversity of the ecosystem.
A stronger platform for shared work contributing to Aotearoa’s future.

Community governance and daily operations remain the same.

Which are the 16 Communities?

Tech New Zealand uses a maturity model:

13 mature Communities (Level 3–4) have their own governance, communications and strategic programmes.
Emerging Communities (Level 2) have dedicated webspace, growing structures and regular events.

Current Communities include:

Tech New Zealand (parent, cross-cutting work in skills, sustainability, safety, trade, etc.)
    AI Forum New Zealand
    AgriTechNZ
    BioTechNZ
    BlockchainNZ
    Digital Identity NZ
    EdTechNZ
    FinTechNZ
    InsurTechNZ
    NZ IoT Alliance
    KiwiSaaS
    LocationTechNZ
    RegTechNZ
    TechWomen
    Tech Marketers
    WealthTechNZ

These Communities represent the breadth of the ecosystem, with 1–2 new groups typically joining each year as collaboration increases — a key driver behind introducing the Tech New Zealand identity.
