Hey Guys,
I currently utilize WHMCS for billing at the moment due to its ease of use and flexibility in terms of integration. A company I do work for is looking to create some SaS (software as a service) online services. What would be great is if the billing for such services could be passed to a Xero API for invoice generation at the end of each month.

E.g. Client X uses 500 of Service a @ $0.40 each and 200 of Service b @ $0.90 each.

Our script would provide these details to Xero and then at the end of each month an invoice would be generated based on the amount of each of these services the customer consumed during that month. I realize Xero already has an API but would it provide this kind of cutom billing ability?

If so it would really make Xero a killer product to integrate a billing/accounting system directly into these kinds of scripts and be really handy for small firms looking to provide such services.

Have a look at http://developer.xero.com... Anything missing you can raise it there.

I've just finished building a web based management app for a client who generates 500 odd invoices in one batch a month, and these push to Xero through their API.  The API is very flexible, and Tony Rule, the Network Manager @ Xero, was very quick and helpful with any queries that came up.

I would suggest you contact a software development company (*cough* *cough*) and get them to build a plugin to interface between WHMCS and Xero.  It wouldn't be a huge job, and with multi-currency in the pipeline your clients will be able to bill their customers in whatever currency is native to them.

If you have any other queries about the API fire away.

Sounds cool! I've checked out the API in more detail and it definitely looks very flexibly. This project wouldn't be linking WHMCS with Xero but a direct integration of our custom scripts (both Domino and PHP) with the Xero API.

The problem is that the business is run by someone who doesn't quite appreciate the efficiency that something like Xero could bring (still does all invoices in excel lol). I'm trying to sell the idea of a completely integrated approach which would also mean we could give MYOB the boot. Still not too sure about payroll though as the ipayroll service website looks a bit bland (and don't call me shallow!)

I'll probably be looking at this over the next few months and may indeed employ your services Nate!

Just a last question - does 3 bit hav any relation to a company called bit1c? I remember contracting them a couple of years ago to do some trixbox work and the name seems coincidental?

The API also supports importing from CSV so that could possibly be an avenue to explore.

No relation, however Chris Hoffman @ BIT1C is a good mate of ours.  He's also a user on this site (chris021)
