I'm looking for suggestions from web developers for online hotel booking/reservation systems. Open Source would be nice, but commercial is fine.

It will be part of a website I'm building for a client. Ideally based in PHP/MySQL, but this is flexible. Likewise, i'd prefer to install and run it on our server, but a subscription, software-as-a-service system may also work.

There are various options with OS CMS systems like Joomla, but something native may suit our needs better.

Any thoughts welcome.

Cheers,
Nick

(for this job at least) it's just a simple lodge, booking rooms by the night, taking deposits or full payment ahead by credit card (a payment module would be nice, but I can integrate it with DPS or Paypal as necessary). it should manage the status of rooms, so that reserved rooms are not double booked, but would require an admin panel for staff to keep track of things.

I have a different client enquiring about more of a conference booking type system (not unlike booking seats at a movie), but it's the rooms/rates reservation system I'm interested in at this stage.

Cheers,
N

the next question is that do they advertise on the online version of the AA and/or Jason's as would you want to integrate that with that?

Err also what are they running for their reservation system off line?

well there are plenty of booking engine for just online, but it means double handling of bookings, get an email and they have to enter this manually to what ever system that they may have/not. Google it ...

This is a tricky one as staff will need to maintain all bookings in the system (even the ones where people walk in off the street, phone in), otherwise the full rooms won't show properly.

I don't know of any PHP scripts that will do this, especially with tieing in with DPS - why not get something custom built?

Thanks for your responses. Yes, I suppose the easy answer would be a simple contact form. The long answer an expensive custom built programme.

I have seen a couple of potential commercial applications

http://online-booking.5mservices.com/ 5MS has what looks like a nice suite

http://demos.bug-software.com/demo2/ Bug software integrates with Joomla

and I hear Magento (OSCommerce suite) is about to release a reservation component.

But, as you say, depending on what they have already operating in house to manage bookings, there may potential for doubling up of entries.

Have a look at www.freshmeat.net. There are a few reservation systems on there.

Although this is an old post it's still relevant. An alternative which definitely worth checking out is Sirvoy Booking System.
