I'm battling a particular registrar to get the UDAI for two domains a new client of mine has.

For Domain A they advise me they've emailed it to the technical contact of the domain (fair enough) but I'm yet to receive that email (now waiting 5 hours).  I've sent test emails to that same address which arrive immediately.  They won't give it to me over the phone (even though they ask for username/pass to verify on the phone) or send it via fax.  Is it reasonable they won't issue it to me any other way?

For Domain B, even though they are listed as the registrar, they won't issue the UDAI as the domain was originally sold by one of their resellers.  The reseller says to contact the web-hoster (??), and the web-hoster says to contact the reseller.  Am I not right in thinking that as the registrar (as according to a whois) they are able to issue the UDAI, regardless of who the reseller is?

Very frustrated at this stage, I won't say who the registrar is, but if this continues, I'll name and shame.

Any ideas anyone?

get another registrar to take over domain ownership? get the domain owner to sign a form and let the registrars deal with the 'issues' of UDAIs

Are the email addresses for the registrant contact and admin_contact the same?

Is the Domain A the technical contact "emailaddress@Domain A", the DNS is hosted elsewhere and that the registrar provides email services for DNS registrants. It could be that the mail server is still authoriative for that domain and that the emails are getting stuck there?)

If you have the username and password, can you login and change the email address of the technical contact and then get the UDAI resent?

I would have assumed that the registrar of Domain B would have been able to assist ... hard to give good advice on that one, perhaps try an escalation technique?

The Registrar should be able to give you the UDIA as long as you can prove you are the listed
registrant_contact_name.

If the reseller cannot help you just tell that to the registrar and they HAVE to give you (if you are the owner) the UDIA.

If you want any help feel free to PM me..

I don't think you should worry about not naming the registrar in question. Perhaps others here would have had dealings with them, and may be able to provide more specific advice. I've dealt with many registrars and usually don't have an issue requesting UDAIs.

Thanks for the suggestion about the email account, I've set it to something different and the UDAI has just come through.

The second issue still stands.  The registrar is referring us to the reseller still.

The registrar is Domainz.

Section 3.5 and 3.6

Quote that..

And.. http://drs.dnc.org.nz/drs/ if they still refuse to give you the UDAI to the owner...

You didn't need to name the registrar. It was quite obvious it was Domainz from the problems you were having. What do you expect from Aussies?

Hi there, I can understand your pain, simply fill out the form here at the domain name commission, and they should have it resolved ASAP:

The most amazing thing is the first domain I ever registered (back in 98) was with Domainz.  How times have changed.

Thanks for all your helpful advice guys, will try again on Monday.  I'll keep you posted.

How did you get along?

Just something to note though, just because domainz is the registrar does not mean that they can give you the UDIA as they may not hold it. The domain may have been ordered/ bought through domainz and then passed onto the 'reseller' for domain / zone file management.

Still waiting.  Client has contacted the reseller who is taking their sweet time to get the UDAI through to them.  Tomorrow I'm told.

As the listed registrar, shouldn't they have a copy of the UDAI on file?

They probably are taking their time, trying to make sure you decide to stay with them, so they keep their sweet $38/yr renewals.

What a bunch of idiots.

Oh sorry I was talking from my Ass, the registrar is the one who holds the UDIA code even if the names servers holding the zone file for the doman have been changed.

I can't see though how it can take days to release, unless no one knows how to generate the code, or something on their side it broken.

freitasm: What a bunch of idiots.

I could not agree more.

We waited 2 full days after being bounced around, finally got word from the reseller then my client gets this:

So after all the emails back and forward, Domainz, the registrar of the domain name, after telling us they couldn't issue the UDAI, only the reseller could, sends us an email with the UDAI.

Domainz you are a joke.  I was looking forward to dragging you in front of the Domain Name Commissioner.

My advice: avoid these bunch of clowns at all costs. Idiots.
