Ive been with them since last September on the same deal and had no issues.

Firstly there is no such thing as 'unlimited'. They will get you in their terms if you use too much diskspace or bandwidth Also you haven't been with them very long. I know of a company that was with them and they had quite a bit of downtime.

I've been with them since September 2006, and the only real issue I had was when someone ran the end-of-year billing cycle with one year off. They charged about $1 million extra to a lot of angry people. All charges (including overage, etc) were refunded, but it did cause some grief.

For a hosting company, they're actually quite open in terms of communicating stuff.

Yes I know about "unlimited", its definetely more unlimited than the slack 20mb of data and 1gb transfer that a lot of NZ providers offer.

I did research them before I joined, did note that when they first appeared there was issues but have been reliable for quite some time. And for the price, I can live with the odd bit of downtime.

One of the best features of Dreamhost is its great ssh support which you can use to compile any tools you need, even your own PHP extensions (i.e. eAccelerator. You must be a guru Linux sysadmin to provide such level of access and don't get your server hacked within minutes :)
