Hello all

I am a complete newbie in this area.  I have absolutely no experience in setting up web pages or anything similar.  I am in the process of starting a small business on a zero budget.  I have had advice that getting a web page started is one of the best things you can do as this can increase awareness and enquiries.

Can anyone advise me as to where I should go to register a domain and hosting a website.  I have read on the forums that these can be separately done, so that is fine.  At this stage all I want is a very basic website that introduces my business and the services offered (one, maybe two pages) and provides an email address (myname@mybusiness.co.nz) .  I am assuming that this can be done using a template?

Can anyone suggest to me companies that would suit my needs?  Cost, ease of use and decent support are the main issues at this stage.

Any information given is very much appreciated.

Hosting and domains names aren't free so you'll have to allocate some budget to both.  You also need to understand that they are separate - a domain name is just the address, you need to pay for hosting to actually have an active website.

There a plenty of hosting companies around that do both, do a quick Google search and you're bound to come up with results.

If you have no luck, flick me a PM and we can help you out.

Hello

Thanks for the quick response.  Just to clarify - I have looked for hosting on the net but there are so many options, and I don't know where to start or which ones are reliable, good communication etc.  This is where I would really appreciate some advice.

Thanks

A domain name will cost you about $20-30 per year (ie: yourname.co.nz)

There are many domain registrars but I've used these in the last few years:

http://www.domains4less.co.nz/
https://www.discountdomains.co.nz/
http://www.1stdomains.co.nz/

Basic hosting will cost you about $5-10 per month, it's usually shared grade which means it's cheaper but there are many sites on the same servers. Usually this is fine for low traffic small business sites. Most will include email hosting too. The actually servers will usually be based in the US (as they are cheaper than NZ servers).

So I've used in the last few years:

http://www.kiwihosting.net.nz/shared-hosting.html
http://www.sitehost.co.nz/hosting/shared-hosting
http://www.openhost.co.nz/webhosting/linuxhosting.php

There are many many more options than this of course.

Taking up Nate on his offer would probably get you a good deal too!
