Hi

I've been in the IT business for many years but I'm a complete ignorant about CISCO technology, so I was thinking about studying for the CCNA certification. Do you recommend any good center?

You really want to get some hands on experience yourself. I know there's some software out there now that can run Cisco's IOS in an emulated mode, so you get a router on your desktop essentially.

You can fire up more than one (I think, I'm a Juniper person myself) and get them talking so you have a virtual lab. That'll teach you quite a lot.

I have done just this, but using Juniper Network's "JunOS" instead, mostly for something to play with when I didn't have a job actually working with them.

Anyway, this link should get you started. If you get really stuck finding a Cisco IOS image, well, I know Geekzone has a private message function ;)

Nayland College (http://www.nayland.school.nz) teach Cisco CCNA for next to nothing, it's just the final course that cost's something around $500

They also do remote courses, I know this since I have studied Cisco CCNA there - The teacher is great, and it's cheap. Give them a shot :)

Nayland College is based in Nelson btw.

Thanks for the tips. I'm a home study person (I managed to get some Microsoft and Linux certifications by myself) but in this particular case I need to be enrolled in a regular course in Auckland :(

Auckland University do CCNA - except the prices for that are through the roof.

Try AUT. They offer CCNA classes. Expensive but not as much as the University of Auckland. The University of Auckland may require you be enrolled in a degree program to take CCNA classes.

find some cisco IOS
and search CCNA on any torrent site. hours of training videos

There also is a Cisco IOS Simulator you can download.
The CCNA pages are web-based, in-fact I still have my login for them :P

marpada - if you have already completed previous certificates via self study there is no reason you can't do the same for the CCNA.

I recommend buying Todd Lammle's CCNA Self Study Guide

After you have read and understood the books, completing written labs, practice questions and practical labs, you may want to check out Jeremy's CBT Nuggets http://cbtnuggets.com/webapp/store?op=category&category_id=26

GNS while good, requires you to own copies of the IOS to use, otherwise it is useless. Cisco have their own simulator tool that has everything you need to prep for the CCNA exam - take a look here http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/netacad/course_catalog/PacketTracer.html

You may also consider doing the CCNA in two parts via CCENT and ICND2 or the whole thing at once via the CCNA exam.
