Why is it not possible to purchase .nz domains? The only domains that are available are the second level domains (.co.nz, .geek.nz etc...).

That's how the domain space is divided... Unlike the US, other countries have Top Level Domains (TLD) and second level.

Oh yeah, I know about top and second level domains. I am simply curious if anyone knew why, like other countries, we can't purchase simply .nz (like .be, .it, .fr, .es, .de etc...).

I also like having the domains divided but I'm also a fan of choice.
