Any ESXi gurus about ? :)

We're getting PSOD's (purple screen of death) on one of our servers and having problems tracking down whats causing it.

login to your vma, add your esx host to the cma if its not done already, sudo vifp addserver [ip or host name of esx host] then connect to that host using vifpinit [ip or host name of esx host] and then go through the hostd logs, something telling will show up. That is assuming of course that you have a vma and that the machine at least boots.

Also do you have any hardware vendor management add-on for your esx host such a dell open manage?, You should do if you're using your vendors build of ESXi, then look at the health status in vcentre, should give you some idea if there are any hardware related issues.

this here might be easier for you:

I believe the purple screen is normally memory related.

Cheers, think we found the issue.... (fingers crossed)

Server its on has a quad core CPU (no hyper threading) , we thought it was a dual core with hyper threading, so was setup as such...... have since turned off all hyper threading support and seems to be ok so far.

Every other server has been dual core so why this one was quad we have no idea (not that we're complaining) :)
