I have heard that some EFTPOS terminal hardware(?) will not be able to be used after 2011?

Does this apply to hardware or software?

Certain models etc?

I am curious about the Provenco K23P and the T7PLUS S9?

All terminals need to be compliant with the 5.2 EMV standard by 1st June 2011. If they aren't they'll be disconnected from the network.

No idea if those terminals are compatible or can be upgraded, your best bet is to contact your EFTPOS provider.

There's no point upgrading many terminals as they're only upgradeable to 5.2 which will be killed off (from memory) around mid 2014 anyway when EMV6 complinant hardware will be required.

If you can pick up the terminal cheap enough, using till mid 2014 is still cost effective enough isnt it?

Yeah it would be cost effective since some people are virtually giving the terminals away.

Anyone know which revision it is that mandates customer swipe? Getting sick of handing my card over to people to be honest.

My original understanding was it was the June 2011 cutoff, but recently I've begun to wonder as I've seen terminals upgraded to support chip cards with no chip reader in the pinpad.

Chip is via the pinpad in all cases, as it works with the pinpad to do the encryption, there shouldnt be chip in the merchant side from what I was told.

Nope, there are lots of Provenco terminals like the ones at Shell (can't recall the model) that have the chip reader in the base unit and no chip reader in the pinpad.

Yep, I've seen a lot of these - particularly before chip cards were commonly seen in NZ.  They're also pretty common in other countries.

Hmm, I dont frequent shell. Worrying if true IMO since the only reason that a staffer should be handling the card is to check the digits match in the case of a swipe transaction, there is no reason for chip transactions for that.
