Not too sure which forum to post this in so if it is wrong one please move.

I have been using this Datalogic QS6000+ handled scanner at work without problems, but it doesn't work anymore and I am hoping someone may be able to help me.

Background:
I got this scanner as ex lease stock (no instructions etc), I plugged it into the computer to replace an old scanner and it worked out of the box, no problem.

That was connected via a PS2 connection cable that had an extra PS2 connector on it for a keyboard to be plugged in and then the cable plugged into the PS2 port on the back of the desktop.

Well, that desktop died. It has been replaced by a desktop that does not have a PS2 connector on the rear (or anywhere) on it. Only USB ports.

I got one of those PS2 -> USB connectors and now it is plugged in and sort of works.

The laser comes on when the trigger is pressed, but it doesn't scan all the barcode.

If I scan a barcode on, say, my keyboard here:
129
is all I get.

Strange thing is that 129 isn't any part of the serial number on the barcode.

I don't have any manuals or anything for this so i don't know how to set it up.

Can anyone help?

I just found the manual via the datalogic website's support section (archived products). http://goo.gl/zjvY

Perhaps the manual also has some troubleshooting information in it - otherwise the datalogic support site might be a good bet.

I've only used a few handheld scanners but perhaps it has been somehow misconfigured. If that's the case - you may be able to reset it with a series of barcodes I'm betting will be in the manual.

Keep us posted :)

As per above, you usually need to set them up, by scanning a number of barcodes to define the type of barcode of system you are wishing to scan.

I have found a host of barcodes in the manual but have no idea which one I need to use.

Im not using it with a POS system or anything, it is just used by my desktop to scan barcodes into our system.

Im a bit lost.

Your best bet is to reset it to factory settings.

I've just looked at the manual R44-1542 and on page 3 (page 7 in the PDF), has a barcode you could try out. Generally the defaults are very generous and will allow auto-detection of the barcode types, etc.

If it accepts that above factory revert barcode but you still don't receive any sensible data when you scan a standard product barcode, it sounds like it's buggered. Of course, it might be fixable but you'd have to seek assistance for that.

HTH

** Edit **
Oh, I just had another look at that barcode.  As each section has a SET and END barcode, I don't know whether you need to enter a programming session using the SET barcode before the factory settings barcode and even then, does it reset everything or only in the section you're in?  Perhaps further manual reading would make it clearer.

I haven't found a case where it has been necessary to enable/disable certain barcode types but my use has been rather limited so I honestly don't know for certain.  If you can identify the type of barcodes you scan at your work, you might try and see whether you can explicitly enable that type (just look carefully through the manual)

That or it just doesn't work through a PS/2 to USB converter.

Finding a PC with a PS/2 port would be enough to test this theory.

I bought a USB scanner from Deal Extreme for about US$40 so a replacement is cheap if you get to that point.

I'm not sure about which one to scan as it says things about different codes for different interfaces.

This worked well out of the box when the desktop had a PS2 connector, when using the dual PS2 connector cable that came with the scanner.

Now I have had to connect this dual connector PS2 cable to a USB connector, does that classify as changing interfaces?

I have tried scanning the "set" then "factory default" and then the "END" codes but it only scans every 4th digit/number??

Barcodes have different types? We scan the ones on the back of computers, laptops etc. i have no idea which type they are.

I even went as far as to grab another one of these that we had as it was in the same "pre played with" state as mine was before I got the USB connector.

It didn't work either. I am thinking it may be the USB connector??

Oh! Yes, my apologies - I should have read your first post more in-depth. I'd recommend ruling out the adaptor by plugging into a computer with PS/2 port whereever you can find one! As you suggest, it may be the adaptor and you may get it working by changing the interface settings as you mentioned. Perhaps a little bit of experimentation.

thats unfortunate. I dont have a computer with a PS2 plug anymore to plug it into.

I guess I cant get this working at all then?

Dang!

From what youve described, its similar to a scanner I had.

Plugged into the PS2 port and had a pass through for the keyboard to plug into. I found that if the keyboard wasnt plugged into it, it wouldnt work correctly. Soon as I plugged in a PS2 keyboard again it would work fine. Was annoying since I had upgraded to a USB keyboard.

Yeah i found this problem too, but I have had a PS2 keyboard plugged into it the whole time as well.

Even though I dont use it (I use a USB one), it sits under the desk plugged in.

Thanks xpd
