Hi,

Any existing co-lo customers of Maxnet and Orcon here?

Experiences? Got a couple of new boxes to go live for a project so keen to see who thinks what of these two major suppliers.

Maxnet, no doubt.

Both got new facilities (well, Maxnet is renewing theirs), but Orcon's support is awful for the colo if you don't have a half-rack or better.

There's no shortage of companies offering co-location these days:

Catalyst IT (Wellington, CDB)
Citylink (Wellington, CDB)
DataCom (Auckland, North Shore, Albany)
Digiweb (Christchurch, Technology Park near Airport)
HostingDirect (Auckland, North Shore, Albany + leased space in Orcon DC)
Iconz (Auckland, CDB)
Orcon (Auckland, North Shore, Albany)
Maxnet (Auckland, North Shore, Albany)
Modica / OneSquared ( )
Snap / The Colocation Company (Christchurh, Sydenham)
The Data Centre (Auckland, CBD)
Vector (Auckland, North Shore, NorthCote)
WebDrive (Leased space in Maxnet DC)
Unleash (Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland **Not sure if these are leased space in other DC)
Xtreme Networks (Wellington, Thorndon Quay)

.. I'm sure there are more.

You probably want to take into account a bunch of factors like:

- Site visits: attended/unattended, cost of emergancy access, visiting hours
- Peering and transit redundancy
- Bandwidth options/features CIR etc
- Security and backup features
- Cost of bandwidth/data
- Convenience of location
- Contract term

etc

We're in the process of moving - it's on hold currently until our work load is back under control ... however:

Vector don't do co-location (unless you're housing telco equipment)
Unleash do have their own datacenters. (they're also the only hosting company that I contacted that offered IPv6 directly off the bat.

The bunch of factors that Ragnor mention are definitely things that you must consider...

I use Webdrive who lease Maxnet space. I highly recommend them - they provide fantastic customer service in my experience.

I would try Hosting Direct they have great prices and the guy that runs it is always up for giving customers deals. They also have a lot of other services which you may need and are very competitively priced.
