Hi There!

Other than GZ, where are you guys currently listing your job role advertisements for best results? I have used seek in the past, but I don't recall them being $169 and I noticed TM Jobs is now $129 (Not that the cost is a major, just more than I recalled).

I have a role within my IT Consulting company for a 2+ year experienced IT Technical support person. It will be an onsite and inhouse role. Inhouse, onsite and phone and remote support are involved.

We used to advertise on Seek and SJS but never got any decent applicants. Best results we've had this year was in our local paper (The Press). For some reason Seek seems to attract Indian/African based applicants in droves (not that we wouldn't consider them it's just that 99% of them are not qualified/can't speak English/aren't worth sponsoring over locals).

No, but you can specify something like "Whilst we welcome applications from overseas, only those able to legally live, work and attend interview in New Zealand will be considered" which is on most of the seek/ trademe jobs.

When I was looking for a new job, only trademejobs and seek were worth my time to look at.

Seek as one commentator said attracts a lot of time wasters from overseas.

I always advertise in TradeMe and the local newspaper. National papers like the Herald are very expensive and the most calls generated are from HR Agencies who want to charge an arm and a leg.

Yah it never ceases to amaze me the HR Companies that call me. Though one guy said he had 4 candidates that looked good and only wanted about $1200 in fee's. Was almost tempted, but I was suspicious.

Just get him to send the candidates and pay him the $1200 if you hire one of them :)

I have had issues with hidden terms and conditions, and I was wary of why it was so cheap.

Well I have a couple of OK candidates. One of them is Indian. His accent isn't too bad, but I am wondering if it's legal/immoral to suggest that an accent neutralization course which I would pay for, was part of the conditions of his employment?

A number of our clients would perceive him poorly upfront, and If I can overcome the initial impression I believe it will be fine. I may go to hell for even suggesting such a thing.

Walk down to your local Citizens' Advice Bureau, could be a simple/cheap way to find out? Or stump up the money for an hour with a Lawyer.

Personally I think it is just as reasonable as requesting a person showers & dresses smartly so he makes the best impression with clients, or even if his accent is particularly far off it could be viewed as a communication problem that naturally should be resolved.

Let us now how it goes as it sounds interesting, hopefully you won't get a political correctness gone mad response and he will get the job! Wish you the best.

Where can I find such a course? I would so love to get rid of my Eastern European accent.
I did some research a while back and everybody seemed to agree that: "just wait about 20 years and it will go away".

About the topic, I consider that an accent brings you nothing but disadvantages. Like a name that nobody can pronounce or spell.
This is why I decided to change mine completely and saying that, I didn't think I'd have such a hard time finding myself an English name.

Cheers

Most likely he would be much more upset if he were not offered the position at all.
