Hi There

I'm attempting to learn & make a website in Joomla, I have installed locally using Wamp.
I can do the basics so far, but having trouble when trying to use a template with Gantry framework & some Rok extensions.

More than anything I think I just kind of get lost when attempting to utilize this template to make my own website.

Anybody able to offer some help preferably based in Auckland and wouldn't mind meeting in person to give me some tips, or explain in such away that I get that 'a-ha' moment, because I think that's what I'm missing.

Thanks in advance

Piquet

Have installed the template, or did you use a "rocket launcher" to install joomla with all template components and modules in place?  If so, it really is not that difficult.  Where exactly are you stuck?

I have 2 x setup. Using the Zephyr template for now

1 x just the template & extensions
1 x via rocketlauncher

Should be a piece of cake when you know how it all links together.

I'm trying to re-create the look using my data starting from scratch, with the 2nd install as a guide. I'm not too much of a thicky, but I'm still failing!

Do you use Joomla for your work or hobby?

We have utilised Joomla many times, but only when it fulfills the requirements of project.

Some general thoughts - If using Rockettheme templates, until you're used to them, I would suggest installing the demo content also.  The other advantage/disadvantage of RT joomla templates, is the use of Gantry.  This can be frustrating.  Lastly, always check file permissions on the rocket launcher versions, they often defaulted to 644 which can be a pain.

Hi Piquet,

What exactly is the problem? Is it the template layout you are having issues with?

Cheers, Matt.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Thank you Mr HelloWorld for your help. ;-)

Hairy1, I was finding it a daunting task to completely recreate the template from scratch.
I have now installed with sample data & I am basically copying my info and replacing the original articles.

It's not how I originally wanted to do it to understand the framework, but it will do for now & hopefully I'll pick up more knowledge along the way.

Once I get stuck (and no doubt I will) I'll come back to this post & try and be more clear with my problems.

Cheers.
