Hi There!

I heard there were some new players for Auckland CBD coming or here already offering faster and more cost effective alternatives to DSL. Mostly when I say faster I mean uploads. I would really like 60GB Traffic with at least 8Mb (prefer 15Mbit) down and 2-3Mbit up.. I might be dreaming but I'd consider upto $400 a month.

you would pay $400 for 60GB of data just to get a bit faster uploads? crikey.

I beleive VDSL will give you what you want, but AFAIk nobody is selling it at retail yet. If they did, it would be a lot less than $400 though!

TelstraClear cable (Wellington, Kapiti and Christchurch) $210 a month for 25 Mbps download/10Mbps upload, with 120GB allowance.

Think your pricing again...

telstraclear have equip in several exchanges and offer VDSL. orcon has equip in many exchanges and is on the verge of offering their own SHDSL product. other ISPs can resell you the telecom shdsl services that can go over 5MBps. in the CBD you also potentially have fibre options with Citylink and Vector.

nb: having a faster connection doesnt necessarily mean faster uploads. if your uploads are international then it will depend on the quality of international bandwidth of your provider.

Interestingly, unless a provider is _really_ playing nasty with DPI or similar, even ISPs with heavily congested downstream issues at peak hour normally have uncongested upstream because of the assymetric nature of net usage and the access medium.

Sorry I can't help with the Akl specific query.

Cheers - N

Hmm well this is really frustrating, Telstra took 3 goes to tell me they aren't sure if they can provide me a faster connection, but that the entry level faster service they offer with multiple ip's is $5000 a month + $1000 in traffic costs.

Some of the smaller ISP's allow for multiple IP's over DSL, it seems strange that the larger ones can't do it as well, or won't.

LOL WTF? entry level is $5k per month?!

I know Xtreme Networks are offering VDSL2 over Telecom wholesale - will be signing up our Wellington office next month when we move.

They think on avergae connections sync at 40mbps down and 10mbps up.

$149 for unlimited national and then international on top (but its quite expensive). Also all their network is in Wellington so latency won't be as good as Auckland providers.

It doesn't look to be on their website. I rang last week inquiring about Telstra Cable (we are on nzwireless atm and its horrendously unreliable) but apparently cable is even worse. They suggested VDSL2 which they are actively signing up new customers with but apparently haven't updated their website with and the price was $149. International is reallly expensive with them though so I'm going to tunnel everything to our DC in Auckland and share our flat rate international.
