Hi all,

Don't know where else to post this. I'm planning to move into contracting shortly and want to do so under a company as opposed to an individual.

Can anyone recommend an account in Wellington CBD to assist me in setting up a NZ Limited Company, mainly around the IRD/GST/tax/ACC/whatever else side of things. Already have the name reserved etc so it's just going through the process of incorporating it.

You can easily do most of this yourself. Registering the new company and GST number can be done at the same time through the companies office. Not too sure about ACC, and I would use Xero for your accounts.

Yeah, I got up to the part where it started asking about BIC codes and the questions around GST and wasn't sure how to answer them

I have been looking at Xero though

They aren't in the CDB but everything can be done remotely if you are using Xero. Their rates are probably better value for money than companies based in the CDB . They can help you with company formation, annual returns, GST management, etc. They are also Xero certified advisors.

Please do not just limit yourself to Wellington, as an Accountant I can tell you that we deal with people from all over the world as these days communication via the web is easy.

Also don’t look at the cost but of the service that they can provide especially looking beyond more than just compliance work such as GST returns etc as some investment now can pay off in the future when you really need it.

Also ask your friends who they use, why they use them and what their accountant has been able to do for them, and this doesn’t just mean oh my accountant got me a refund of $x. Also see what sort of relationship they have formed as that we will help you to ascertain if the accountant has an interest in you and your objectives.
