Hey guys,
OK went to the Orcon DC in Northcote from around 2300 on Saturday night to 0200 on Sunday morning for normal maintenance tasks (replacing BBUs, installing new servers for testing, hard drives etc.). So about 5 minutes after I enter the alarm goes off. it's pretty loud but I figure I'll keep going and just put up with it because the security guard will be there in 10mins tops.
Come 0030 no one has turned up, called or anything so I call the corporate support helpline and go through to the on call engineer, it goes to his voicemail so I leave a voicemail. Keep going and he calls back (can't hear the phone due to the alarm) and leaves a message saying he can't come in remotely to turn the alarm off as the system is broken. I call him back saying turn the thing off as I'm getting pretty pissed off now. So he phones back says he'll come in to turn it off. He comes in around 0145 and turns it off.
It turns out the front door didn't shut properly and that set the alarm off. Weird I thought as it has a magnetic lock and spring arm thing. he leaves, i finish up and when I go to leave I see that from when he left the door hasn't closed correctly again and is stuck in the doorframe. There is still one internal security door with fingerprint/swipe access so le olde criminal can't get in taht easy but still. I'm guessing he just disabled the alarm as it should have gone off again.
This exact same thing happened around a month ago when I went in during the day on a Sunday.
I reckon that if there were say 4 people, you could have cleaned out at least 6 racks of equipment during that time and lets say your average rack has 100k of gear in it that would be pretty good pickings.
Anyway so their main security door is broken, their security alarm isn't monitored and their on call technician isn't answering his phone straight away. What do you guys thin of that?
