hi,

I have just launched a new website. We bought the URL off misubishi motors. For most people when they type in the address it goes to our site. but i have heard a lot of other people say it goes to the Mitsubishi site still. can anyone explain this?

Thanks for your help

some ISPs might have the old IP address cached and not renewing it as mandated by the DNS records. Tell the users to contact their ISP.

Could be a missing www also? Eg. mynewwebsite.co.nz and www.mynewwebsite.co.nz will both need DNS records updated.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

If you post the website location, some of us might be able to confirm that.

Interesting to note the ISP of users having problems if that is the issue.

How long has your website been up?

Hey, thanks for all the replies.

I will try and find out what ISPs these people are using, if it is a common ISP then it sounds like that might be the answer.

the site is www.payload.co.nz

Thanks again for all your help

If the site has only been up a short time it might just be records not propagated into the corners of the net. Usually faster but a few days might sort it out.

If the affected users are behind corporate networks there might be a few more cache levels involved. In the simplest scenario a simple reboot will solve it and it is worth a try, else to get it sorted they may need to contact their corporate IT helpdesk, with a note from you.

It is not this issue as the non www redirects to www so you are good there. I see the new site.

The problem is with Xtra. They are *still* acting as authoritative for the domain even after its been moved off them. Contact Xtra and ask them to remove it off off their system.

whois payload.co.nz

ns_name_01: ns1.nameserver.net.nz
ns_name_02: ns2.nameserver.net.nz
---------
nslookup payload.co.nz 210.55.12.1 (orcon) (good)

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: payload.co.nz
Address: 119.47.118.77
payload.co.nz nameserver = ns1.nameserver.net.nz.
payload.co.nz nameserver = ns2.nameserver.net.nz.
---------------
nslookup payload.co.nz alien.xtra.co.nz (Xtra) (wrong)

payload.co.nz nameserver = terminator.xtra.co.nz.
payload.co.nz nameserver = alien.xtra.co.nz.

Wow thats awesome thank you for that.

I will contact xtra and get them to sort it out.

Will this fix the issue or is there still going to be some issues with some organisations and their servers?

Thanks for all the replies. really helpful!

Once Telecom fixes this then everything else should work ok after a while.

Well I called Telecom and they have said they have fixed it. Is there any way of testing whether they have?

Cheers
