Hi, we've just got out own sharepoint server for a development project and i've been given the task of administrator.

Everything seems to be coming along though i was wondering if anybody knew if it was possible to set up alerts/announcements on the front page if a new file in a particular library was created.

Any ideas?

I've talked to someone who knows about these things, and he thinks you have a couple of options here:

- Use a dataview web part to show "new" items from the document library. New could mean items in the last X weeks/days for example. You will need to open the page with FrontPage to drop in a Data View Web Part.

- Create your own custom web part to do this. They are just .Net assemblies so if you are comfortable with writing a .Net server control then you should have no problems.

- Use the OOB list view web part to show the latest 10 doucments in the library. All you would need to do is drop a list view web part on the front page, configure it to limit to 10 docs say & order by last modified date.
