In 2012 Alan Turing would turn 100 years old. There are some activities planned to celebrate this year:

- The Alan Turing Year 2012
- Turing100in12

Certainly one of the most brilliant mathematicians of the 20th century, I'd even say his work at Bletchley Park is what helped the Allies win the WWII in Europe.

There are rumors of a movie this year with Leonardo De Caprio in the lead role.

Yep, great to see recognition of these guys. Their largely unheralded work made a huge impact on the duration and possible outcome of the war. Another such person is Gordon Welchman. He is probably the father of data reduction, many of the techniques he pioneered are still in use today, both commercially and in the Secret Services. There's an extremely interesting documentary on him on YT.

Films as entertainment are usually very poor at sticking to the real history. One good thing about the internet is that it is easy to find the many articles that spring up pointing out the inaccuracies. Enigma was the start. The story went on to include the Lorenz coding machines and the Colossus computers. Turing worked with many other gifted people who largely didn't get due recognition because secrecy remained in place long after the war.
