Hi All

I am in the process of migrating a domain name away from Telecom Bussiness Hub hosting and have built the new site etc on google apps. what myself and the "client" are having trouble with is getting a hold of the UDAI for the domain to be able to transfer it to freeparking.co.nz or the likes

This is complicated due to me not being listed on the accounts with Telecom and the "client" not being technically minded and based out of the city i am in.

does any one have any pointers on where to begin with Telecom in this case.

I have tried to get around it by modifying the DNS Zone for the domain on the Control Panel that telecom provides but they do not seem to allow cname entries that dont end in the domain you are working with e.g. ghs.google.com is what i need but it keeps changing it to ghs.google.com.domainname.co.nz so it will never work. also it likes to keep adding in the generic webmail.domain.co.nz and ftp.domainname.co.nz entries and not matter what i do it wont let me get rid of them.

So if any one round here has delt with this before your pointers to get me to the right people with in the big word of Telecom would be good.

Type whois nz into google. Type in the domain into the whois tool, and see what the registrant and the email address is set to. Then call up telecom, and ask them to send the UDAI to the domain registrant, or get the domain registrant to request it. I believe they must provide that to you in a timely manner. If you have problems contact the DNC.ORG.NZ

hey guys

been there done that the Registar is melborneIT and and email has been sent from the "admin" email address to the address listed in the who is info bt they have not replied.

I will try again

Also just got myself added to the account at telecom so should be able to make calls to them and get answers now

The question should be "transferring a domain away from MelbourneIT". Telecom has nothing to do with this and I have moved this to another forum. And as said, they are required to reply with the UDAI in a timely manner.

Thanks i should have thought of that but as the hosting and domain was register via Telecom Business Hub i figured it may have been more a Telecom thing and they just happen to use melbourneIT to do the domain names

I thought telecom now subcontracted out their domain registration to domainz/melbourne IT. If so I think the heading is correct. So it should be telecom they deal with if the domain was purchased through telecom.The registrar will just tell them to contact telecom/the reseller if it was sold by a reseller. Contacting the DNC is only the last resort, as there website says that you should first contact the registrar if you are having problems.

When did you request it? If they have ignored you, then contact the DNC, as they must provide the UDAI in a timely manner. Is there a reason why you contacted melbourne IT, if you were sold the domain by telecom, as I beleive it would be telecom who should provide the UDAI to you?

I get this info on the "error"

CNAME: Can be directed only to a domain name. This domain name must be a valid A record. It cannot be a domain name for another CNAME record.

I think i have got around it for now but i dont think it is the best option. i had to use ghs.l.google.com as the cname host instead of ghs.google.com as the servers that are handling the dns dont like pointing a cname entry to another cname. when i did an nslookup i got back the ghs.l.google.com so tried that and low and behold it worked

Main mission for today is ti get away from Telecom as soon as pos

Get telecom account number from your client.
Call telecom on 0800 BUSINESS
Request the UDAI for the domain to be sent to the registrant contact. Provide with telecom account number.
Get client to forward UDAI back to you.

Yep that was pretty much it. Got it sorted now but was complicated further by the clients laptop packing up and no one knowing the password for the webmail.
